Our Farm
Ribbokkloof is a unique holiday farm situated in Mpumalanga, offering an unforgettable holiday experience. With its breathtaking natural setting, the lodge is a piece of African Paradise, yet conveniently located just 2 hours drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria.
This beautiful 1000ha Highveld farm forms part of a fully active agriculture business, farming with a variety of grains, cattle and sheep. In 2000 the Bothma-family decided that this farm whose splendour touched them every day, must be shared with others.
Most mornings, guests wake up to the sound of the cattle walking down the kloof path to drink from the stream near the chalets, while the calves play in their crèche.

Ribbokkloof combines the best of rustic charm and old fashioned farmhouse hospitality with absolute comfort, with a choice of B&B chalets, self-catering chalets or camping site accommodation. Our chalets are privately positioned in the kloof, where the gentle murmuring of a mountain stream and rock pools will lull you to sleep every night. Or, for the more adventurous, camping under the stars is the perfect way to enjoy being close to nature.
Meet the owners
Daan and Marietjie Bothma have been farming in the Middelburg/Stoffberg area for over 40 years. Along with their son Dorus they manage all the farm activities. Daan always had a love for Ribbokkloof because this is where his precious Bonsmara’s are happiest and he and Dorus first saw the potential of Agri-tourism in the Kloof before the deforestation began.
Marietjie always treated family and friends with her well known koeksisters but are truly living out her passion now by managing the baking of The Oven and catering for the functions at The Sugarbean, Putting love into each dish!
Going Green
We at Ribbokkloof want to do everything we can to protect Mother Earth, which is why we do not use any electricity. Even all the farm practices are focused on conservation farming. But don’t worry, we have many clever, environmentally friendly solutions to make sure that our guests are as comfortable as ever.
Hot water is made possible by solar panels (or gas on not-so-sunny days) while gas runs the stoves and fridges.
In the evenings, you can always enjoy a little romantic candlelight, or make use of our Inverter System.
Each chalet is equipped with an inverter, which is connected to a car battery to provide electric light. This cleverly designed system does not run the car battery down, in fact it does the opposite: charges it as if you were driving!
Because we have no electricity, we have no plugs… so leave your hairdryer and tech gadgets at home, and simply enjoy the bliss of a true back to nature experience.
